ARTIST STATEMENT
I grew up with an appreciation of all forms of art to life and was exposed to the visual arts in particular through quietly listening to stimulated discussion by my parents and others, attending exhibitions, looking at art books, reading and creating.
I have drawn and painted since childhood, always feeling privileged to be able to enter so fully into that world of creativity. Each time is a journey of combined struggle, pleasure and surprise. I have spent as much time as possible trying to extend my ideas, experiment and improve on my techniques.
My major themes revolve around everyday life and the interaction between people and nature. My hope and challenge is to do this in an abstracted way which somehow communicates feelings and emotions related to the subject matter.
Currently I am mainly working with watercolour and collage, often cutting or tearing up my own work and reassembling it.
